China’s Dichotomy on AI and Employment. Robot-ization and AI-fication.

This can be called a Chinese dichotomy! What? On one side, China says it wants to preserve jobs for Chinese people. On the other side, it plans to implement massive AI refueling in world and industry, as seen in China’s World Robots games. And on yet a third dimension, AI is being extensively planned to be taught to schoolchildren. So as soon as a teenager graduates from school, he/she can apply for good if not top AI jobs! What about Gen Z and Millennials do then?

China is adopting AI in all possible fields, be it robotics, any industry, the sports-Olympics, surgery, medicine, coding, technical work, and even all aspects of the huge workforce of software engineers are going to be automated with the latest cheaper LLM models, which are produced at high speed in China without major regulations by governments except the one talked here-employment.

So how can China then safeguard original workers? A court in China ruled that an employer doesn’t have to lay off workers when automation takes over their jobs. But why are you investing in automation then? And why, in the first place, does automation come near the protected workers? How many workers are protected under this law? This is an old news now, there are lot of LLMs in China now which are open source.

So, on one side, China is leading in automation of all kinds, leaving Europe and other parts of the world far behind, and saying at the same time that employees would be protected?

Is China hinting at early retirements and social benefits to its people, given automation as is talked about in the USA and Europe?

So, why is there a new AI curriculum for schoolchildren that would teach teenagers and equip them with AI skills? Well, then surely there would be a huge surge in applications from teenagers and young adults in the job market? Would they be unemployed too? Then why even teach them these skills in school? Why not just teach the skills that are essential for life? Why not make children resilient? Rather than AI equipped, AI which is quite volatile.

This is China’s dichotomy. They say they are preserving employment, but their actions show the opposite: they are moving toward the complete Robot-ization of China and the AI-fication of all streams possible. They are indeed selling their Robot-ization and AI-fication to the world now.
