Gen AI and its Impact on Social Media and Tech Companies Working (Pros and Cons)

Note: The article in duplicate is present on author’s other social media accounts as well.

Gen AI can change everything so why would social media companies lag behind? Would tech companies such as eBay, and others would think twice about engaging in Gen AI? So, here I lay some points on how Gen AI would affect the aspects of technology companies and social media.

What is gen AI? Without going into technical details, gen AI is a generative AI that can generate text, stories, images, and videos for now, all this using AI itself.

Now, let’s start with LinkedIn, a professional social media company, and see how Gen-AI can affect LinkedIn and if so, would it be for good?

Note, any change for good is good. But we don’t know if this is for good, so why not mark and desiccate the Gen-AI outputs marking them as beta?

May be time for LinkedIn to have its own LLM Gen-AI text generator for making posts professionally valuable and rightly informative in professional mode, image generator (professional mode), video-based profile/resume building all these in competition or collaboration with chatGPT…it may take time, till then beta version can be for you and us…who knows it takes time to build a robust system in iterative way. Interesting or not, but with changing times change comes gradually for some and automatically for other passive users.

Now, coming to other social media platforms, such as Facebook, and Instagram I am not an avid user of either, somehow, I don’t like both of these much. However, they can benefit from gen-AI too in the same way as mentioned for LinkedIn above, though in a peppy mode rather than a professional mode.

It is necessary to use gen-AI-based content initially in beta, otherwise, a lot of misinformation may be added to social media content. Iteratively one may be able to remove beta as time and work grows.

Now, coming to tech companies, Gen-AI is pivotal in changing their working as well, for example, an e-commerce company can include Gen-AI based auto-suggestions of related products that are not based on recommender systems while is based on Gen-AI-based training on Large Language Models. Combining the recommendation systems-based recommendations and beta-marked Gen-AI recommendations can be a real plus. How can this help? Well, you get recommendations based on what you buy in a recommender system, while in Gen-AI-based recommendations you get recommendations from say a new adult to all new adult catalogs that he/she can use and what he/she has never used before. But all this with a beta tag!

The same things can be used in gen-AI-based recommendation systems on LinkedIn, Facebook, other news sites, and other tech-enabled companies that use recommender systems.

With all these pros come cons. Tech giants, E-commerce, and social media companies must know, how to avoid wrong Gen-AI generated content such as Gen-AI based fake reviews of products, Gen-AI based fake content on social media, Gen-AI based fake images and videos, all this to know these must be checked at all points, from the provider of Gen-AI to the consumer of Gen-AI.

All this is doable, let me know if you have any questions, I would be happy to help you with this.
